Golder Associates Achieves LEED® Canada-CI Gold Certification

Golder2Golder Associates is a global, employee-owned organization that provides consulting, design, and construction services in earth, environment and energy.  Founded in 1960, they employ over 8,000 people in 180 offices worldwide, and their clients span the world’s major economic drivers: Oil and Gas, Mining, Manufacturing, Power, and Transportation. Golder Mississauga office is located at 6925 Century Avenue and occupies 6 floors of a new building in which the developer received LEED® Gold certification under the Core and Shell Rating System.

As part of Golder’s commitment to sustainable development and to demonstrate to their employees their commitment to providing a healthy workplace, a decision was made to pursue LEED certification. Green Reason joined the project as LEED Consultants, helping Golder achieve a LEED Gold certified space including a lunchroom with an outdoor patio, meeting rooms, conference rooms, private offices, a resource room, and an open workstation area.

The entire suite’s perimeter walls are glazed, which provides views for more than 90% of the employees. Clear glazed partitions for open workstations, internal private offices and internal meeting rooms throughout the suite provides occupants with both natural light and a high percentage of views to the outdoors, which have proven to increase occupant satisfaction and productivity. Additionally, a comprehensive ergonomic evaluation and training program was implemented as part of the furniture procurement program.

Lighting controls in the form of task lighting were incorporated at each desk. This allows staff to adjust their own lighting controls to suit their individual task needs and preferences through the day. The shared space is also equipped with motion sensors, occupancy sensors, as well as dimmers.

Installation of low-flow plumbing fixtures resulted in a 40% reduction in water usage when compared to conventional fixtures.
